W. Ross Stone

Board Members

W. Ross Stone was born in San Diego, California. He has over 45 years of industry, consulting, and research experience in antennas, propagation, cellular and wireless communications, cell phones, computational electromagnetics, networking, and HF through optical technologies. He was Editor-in-Chief of the IEEE Antennas and Propagation Magazine and its predecessor publication for over 30 years.  

He is Editor of the Radio Science Bulletin of URSI (the International Union of Radio Science), a position he has held for more than 20 years. It is estimated he has edited over 10,000,000 peer-reviewed words in print. He is Assistant Secretary General (Publications and GASS) of URSI. Among other positions, he was Chief Scientist of McDonnell Technologies, Research Advisor of IRT Corp., and Executive Director of an international scholarship fund in telecommunications. He has been President of his own consulting firm for over 45 years, a Director and/or principal of five companies, and an investor in and/or active part of 16 startup companies. He currently works as an expert witness, provides technical consulting to legal and industrial firms on patents, and provides research, design, and engineering services.  

He is an Adjunct Full Professor of Beijing Jiaotong University. He is a Fellow of the IEEE, a Fellow of URSI, a Fellow of the CIE, a Fellow of the Electromagnetics Academy, and author/editor of six books and over 100 journal and conference papers. He is an Honorary Life Member of the IEEE Antennas and Propagation Society (AP-S) AdCom, received the EurAAP Antenna Award, the URSI President’s Award, the AP-S Outstanding Service Award, and the IEEE Third Millennium Medal. He has been General Co-Chair of more than a dozen international scientific symposia in China, and on the Technical Program and Organizing Committees of over 40 other international scientific symposia.
