2017 EurAAP Awards

The Awards

The awards aim to recognise the contribution of a person to: 
  • Advances in Antennas or Propagation
  • Education in the fields of Antennas or Propagation
  • Coordination of research & networking activities in the fields of Antennas or Propagation

in Europe or in relation with European actors.

The awards consist of:
  • a plaque
  • a free EuCAP conference registration
  • a free EuCAP Conference Dinner ticket

Starting in 2015, 2 Awards are established: the EurAAP Antenna Award and the EurAAP Propagation Award.

Eligibility

Any living person, from any country, is eligible to the EurAAP award. Being an EurAAP member is not required.

Members of the EurAAP Board of Directors or any person having an official position within EurAAP (Work package leaders, members of the EuCAP Steering Committee) are not eligible during their term and  in the 2 years following the end of their mandate .

Nomination/endorsement by a member of the Awards Committee is not allowed. If a member of the Committee wishes to nominate/endorse a candidate, he/she will be replaced in the committee for two years.

Procedure

The call for award nomination/endorsement is annual.

All EurAAP members can nominate candidates. They must provide a biography of the nominee, which highlights the reasons why he/she should be considered for the award. This nomination has to be done using the EurAAP Awards nomination form.

All EurAAP members can endorse the nomination of a given candidate. They must provide the reasons why he/she should be considered for the award in a letter to be attached to the nomination form, or sent separately.

The recipients of the Awards are selected by the EurAAP Award Committee, chaired by the leader of the EurAAP WG on Societal Issues. The members of the committee are appointed for a three-year term by the EurAAP BoD on behalf of the EurAAP Delegates Assembly. Their deliberations are confidential, and their decision final.

The awards are given during the European Conference on Antennas & Propagation Conference Dinner.

Deadlines

Nominations have to be completed before January 31st, 2017 using the nomination form available here All nomination documents, including the endorsements, have to be provided with the nomination.

The Awards Committee will inform the BoD of the final decision before February 28th, 2017.

2017 EurAAP Leopold B. Felsen Award

The “Leopold B. Felsen Award for Excellence in Electrodynamics” (henceforth “the Award”) was originally established jointly by the University of Siena and the University of Sannio, funded through a donation from Michael and Judy Felsen in fulfillment of the last wishes of their father, Professor Leo Felsen (1924-2005). Since from 2015, the Award is established by the European Association on Antennas and Propagation (EurAAP).

The Award

The main purpose of the EurAAP Felsen Award is to keep alive Prof. Felsen’s memory and scientific legacy, as well as to foster academic excellence in the electromagnetics community, by giving recognition to outstanding fundamental contributions from early stage researchers in electrodynamics.

Candidates from all areas of Electromagnetics are eligible to apply. Selection will be based on quality and significance of candidate's contribution to the field, and on the recommendation of the referees.

Eligibility

The Award, by nomination only, will be presented annually, as a career award, to an early stage researcher. Eligible nominees should be under 40 years of age at the submission deadline. Previous awardees (also from the former Sannio and Siena editions) are not eligible.

Procedure

The award consists of a prize of 4,000 euro, which will be funded by the Felsen Family through a donation. The Award will be officially presented every year at the banquet of the European Conference on Antennas and Propagation (EuCAP).

 The nominators will be asked to submit the following items:
  1. A nomination form;
  2. Up to three endorsement letters;
  3. Three representative publications related to the topics listed above.

 

A committee chaired by Prof. Vincenzo Galdi (University of Sannio) and including four prominent scientists chosen by the EurAAP Board of Directors (BoD), in consultation with Prof. Galdi, will be in charge for the selection. The 2017 EurAAP Leopold B. Felsen Award Committee is composed by:
  • Prof. Vicenzo Galdi (Chair)
  • Prof. Ehud Heyman
  • Prof. Raj Mittra
  • Prof. Juan R. Mosig
  • Prof. Werner Wiesbeck

The committee will assign the Award on the basis of:
  1. Pertinence of the topics;
  2. Relevance and quality of the presented papers;
  3. Scientific standing of the candidate

Nominations

Nomination forms must be submitted by January 31st, 2017, together with the publications and endorsements requested, using the using the nomination form available here. The Awards Committee will inform the BoD of the final decision before February 28th, 2017.
